It’s that time of year where we all look back on the year so far and see what books we have loved, disliked and still want to read by the end of the year. This tag is always a lot of fun and I love seeing everyone else’s answers too.

Best Book You Have Read So Far in 2020?

My favourite book of the year so far is probably A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder by Holly Jackson. It is a really great page-turner and it was impossible for me to predict the ending.

Best Sequel You Have Read in 2020?

This would have to be the sequel to the book I mentioned above which is Good Girl, Bad Blood by Holly Jackson. I thought was a great continuation of the first book.

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To?

Before The Coffee Gets Cold Toshikazu Kawaguchi is a book I have sitting next to me ready to read. I’ve heard such good things about it and it is quite a short book so it shouldn’t take long to finish.

Most Anticipated Release For Second Half of 2020?

I’m really excited for two books to be released later this year. They are In Case You Missed It by Lindsey Kelk and Love Your Life by Sophie Kinsella. I’m a huge fan of both authors as they’re always really funny.

Biggest Disappointment?

My biggest disappointment this year would have to be The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy the book, it just didn’t blow me away like The Hunger Games did. I thought the pacing was very strange, with the middle of the chapters being too long with barely anything happening. The last section of the book ended really fast too. But it was nice being in that world again and interesting to see it from President Snow’s perspective.

Biggest Surprise?

Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid was a good surprise. I didn’t know what to expect when I picked it up but the characters had me hooked from the start. I read it within a 24-hour period.

Favourite New Author?

Anne Griffin is a new favourite author of mine. I read When All is Said this year and it was really enthralling. Maurice was such a memorable character and I loved that it was set in Ireland.  I always recommend this book to everyone but be warned, you will need some tissues.

Newest Favourite Character? 

A character that pops into my mind is Laini Taylor’s main character in Strange the Dreamer. Lazlo Strange is a very relatable character as he is a huge bookworm. He spends all his spare time reading, when he’s not working in the library. He is a really fascinating character and one I think will stick with me for a long time.

Book That Made You Cry?

I don’t really cry when reading a book, but the saddest one I have read this year would be When All is Said by Anne Griffin and I can see why others would cry while reading it. Also Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo is also one that was very sad but also a wonderful read.

Book That Made You Happy?

Heartstopper volume 3 by Alice Oseman is a book that made me happy. It’s a cute series that I think everyone would love. I particularly liked the scenes where Nick, Charlie and all of their friends head to Paris. I can’t wait for the next volume to be released.

Favourite Book To Movie Adaption You Saw This Year? 

I don’t think I’ve watched a new book to movie adaption this year because I’ve been so engrossed in my reading. I did however watch and reread The Witches by Roald Dahl so that would probably be my answer to this.

Favourite Review You Have Written This Year?

The Toy Makers by Robert Dinsdale is one of my favourite books of all-time and I finally managed to write a review at the start of the year.

Most Beautiful Book You Have Bought So Far This Year?

The Black Flamingo by Dean Atta is really beautiful. The cover is hot pink and has gold foil on it. The book itself is also told entirely in verse and is fantastic.

What Books Do You Need To Read By The End Of The Year?

House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City) by Sarah J. Maas is one I still need to read. I’ve heard it is excellent by lots of other bloggers so I can’t wait to pick it up. I just have to be in the right mood to pick up a fantasy novel but I will get to it by the end of the year.
