Mini wrap-up: May 2024

In May, I managed to read a total of 10 books. I’m not sure how that happened but they were mostly all great stories.

Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors was my only 5 star read. I’ve not read her other book but a story about sisters intrigued me and it was brilliant. I loved how each sister had a distinct voice, their own stories while still navigating the same problem they each faced. I would recommend the audiobook for this one as well.

Where Sleeping Girls Lie by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé exceeded my expectations too. If you like dark academia plots, then this one is a great choice. The mystery kept me interested from start to end and I quite liked that some characters weren’t very likeable at all. It gave me a similar vibe to The Secret History with some of the cliquey dynamics. But with a completely different storyline.

Wendy Cope’s The Orange and Other Poems is a book I picked up with the hope to get into poetry. While I didn’t love the entire collection, I did connect with and adore The Orange. I’m definitely going to read more of her work as there were a few that stood out to me.

My husband wanted me to read one of his favourite childhood books, Cirque Du Freak, and I was pleasantly surprised by the plot. It was a lot darker than I anticipated for a young adult storyline but it was fantastic nonetheless. I might pick up the rest of the series to read later in the year.
