I’m shocked we’re already half way through the year. In 2024, the goal is to read 80 books and I’ve finished 45 so far.
Best book you’ve read so far in 2024?
Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors is my favourite book of the year so far. I loved the story of the three sisters and how they navigated their grief individually. It’s made me want to pick up more books by the author.
Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2024?
I have read a lot more sequels over the last six months than I have in the past few years. My favourite has to be Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez.
New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
Definitely Butter by Asako Yuzuki. I bought it last week and have heard so many great things about it. The only thing I find slightly daunting is the lengthy page count.
Most anticipated release for the second half of 2024
Probably Spectacular by Stephanie Garber and Jacqueline Wilson’s first adult fiction – Think Again. I can’t wait to jump back into the Girls in Love universe that we all read as children.
Biggest disappointment
Poor Things by Alistair Gray. I’m not sure what I was expecting but I found it to be quite boring and misogynistic.
Biggest surprise
Where Sleeping Girls Lie by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé is a great dark academia mystery set in a boarding school. I thought I would enjoy it, but not as much as I did.
New favourite author?
Fyodor Dostoevsky is an author I hadn’t read before and I’m eager to read more of his books after thoroughly enjoying White Nights.
Newest favourite character?
Holly Jackson writes the best characters so I’m going to pick her newest protagonist, Bel, from The Reappearance of Rachel Price.
Book that made you cry?
I don’t cry when reading books so I can’t answer this one
Book that made you happy?
Funny Story by Emily Henry. I love the worlds she creates and all the characters, even though the stories can be heart wrenching at times.
Favourite book to movie adaption you’ve seen this year?
I don’t think I’ve seen a single one. But I am excited to watch A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder which is out this month.
Favourite post you’ve written this year?
Reviews take the longest to write so I’ve picked one of those. My review of The Reappearance of Rachel Price can be read here.
Most beautiful book you bought this year?
Darker by Four by June CL Tan. I got the Fairyloot edition and it’s so pretty, especially the sprayed edges.
What books do you really need to read by the end of the year?
There are so many I want to read – Cleopatra and Frankenstein by Coco Mellors; My Husband by Maud Ventura; The Temptation of Magic by Megan Scott
