My reading goals for 2026

Happy New Year! Hope everyone has a fantastic 2026.

Yesterday, I sat and thought about my reading goals. I usually set a target on Goodreads and aim to read a set amount of goals without too much pressure. Last year, I managed to read 80 books – completing the goal I set at the start of 2025. But I feel I almost didn’t reach it and had moments where it sort of irritated me having a constant reminder that I was behind in a hobby that should just be for fun.

After the clock hit midnight, I set my goal for 80 books in 2026. After some reflection throughout the day, I think I want my reading year to be as calm and uncompetitive as possible. So I’ve changed the goal to one book. I think seeing the “you’ve reached your goal” will be more of a fun thing than “you are x amount of books behind schedule”. I only want to use Goodreads to track what books I’ve read, not the amount.

I probably will read a similar number of books again this year because it is my main hobby. But I want to remove any guilt, without any goals and not get frustrated if I end up hooked on a tv show or don’t fancy reading one month.

Outside of reading, I want to write more and be engrossed in hobbies – crafts, art and everything that brings me joy.

With the blog, I want to keep a routine of writing and uploading at least once a month. Again, to alleviate any pressure.

Thanks for supporting the blog over the last nine years, it doesn’t go unappreciated. It’s been a nice surprise to see readership grow a fair bit, especially over the last couple of years, and find a community of fellow book lovers.
