There are two types of people when the sun comes out, either you love it or you’ll avoid it at all costs like me. Either way, there’s so many great books you can pick up this summer. Here are some of my favourite recent reads.
Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke

Blurb:
Natalie lives a traditional lifestyle – and her followers are sick with envy. Her charming farmhouse on her working ranch is artfully cluttered, her husband is a handsome cowboy, her homemade sourdough boules are each more beautiful than the last. So what if there are nannies and producers and industrial-grade ovens behind the scenes? What her followers don’t know won’t hurt them.
Then, one morning, Natalie wakes up in a strange, horrible version of reality. Her home, her husband, her children—they’re all familiar, but something’s off. Is this a hoax? A reality show? A test from God? Natalie knows just two things for sure: this isn’t her perfect life, and she must escape, by any means possible.
So Thrilled for You by Holly Bourne

Blurb:
Is being a mother the most defining role a woman can have?
Nicki, Lauren, Charlotte and Steffi have been friends since university. Now in their thirties, life is pulling them in different directions, and motherhood is at the forefront of their minds. But when Charlotte organises a baby shower for Nicki on a swelteringly hot summer’s day, it changes their friendship group forever.
In the aftermath, each woman has a different view on what happened that day – but the truth will shock everyone. Even you.
The Honeymoon by Kate Gray

Blurb:
Marriage wasn’t supposed to start with MURDER.
You’re on the honeymoon of a lifetime with your new husband.
Isn’t everything perfect?
You’re enjoying dinner at a luxury restaurant with another newlywed couple.
Until the night ends with a dead body.
All four of you are innocent.
Aren’t you? . . .
Last Summer on State Street by Toya Wolfe

Blurb:
State Street Chicago, 1999. One summer that changes everything.
An unlikely trio: Felicia ‘Fe Fe’ Stevens, daughter of fiercely protective mother; Precious Brown, daughter of a prominent church Elder; and Stacia Buchanan, daughter of a Gangster Disciple Queen-Pin.
They have a simple friendship, whiling away sunny days with games of Double Dutch. But when Fe Fe invites mysterious Tonya into their fold, life as they know it will never be the same again.
Last Summer on State Street is a profound coming-of-age story about the restorative power of community, the claiming of one’s own past, and the defining friendships which form the heartbeat of our lives.
Evenings and Weekends by Oisín McKenna

Blurb:
London, June 2019. Maggie is 30, pregnant and broke. Faced with moving back to the home town she fought to escape, she’s wondering if having a baby with boyfriend Ed will be the last spontaneous act of her life. Ed, meanwhile, is harbouring secret dreams of his own.
Phil hates his office job and is living for the weekend, while falling for his housemate, Keith. But there’s a problem: Keith already has a boyfriend. Then there’s Rosaleen, Phil’s mother, who’s tired of feeling like a side character in her own life. She’s just been diagnosed with cancer and is travelling to London to tell Phil, if she can ever get hold of him.
As Saturday night approaches in a city on the brink of political upheaval, all their lives are set to change forever. It’s the hottest summer on record, and the weekend is about to begin.
