It’s that time of year again where we need to start planning what to get the book lover in our lives for Christmas. Surprisingly there are a lot of gifts that would be greatly appreciated that aren’t just books.
A book subscription service
Is there anything better than receiving a surprise book in the post every month? The best one I’ve discovered over the years is The Rare Birds Book Club – a subscription service supporting women writers. One thing that’s great about this is the absence of extra gifts that aren’t always wanted in a subscription box. You get a nicely wrapped book, as well as a bookmark.
Every month they send a brief description of two books and you get to choose between book A and B. Most of the books I’ve never heard of before and are newer releases. All the books are written by women.
Examples of books received: Penance by Eliza Clark, My Husband by Maud Ventura, Yinka, Where is Your Husband? by Lizzie Damalola Blackburn
There’s an option to buy a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription.
A themed mug
Is the book lover in your life a member of a fandom? Maybe they love ACOTAR, Fourth Wing or even the classics like Pride and Prejudice. There are so many options on Etsy and various small businesses like the Literary Emporium – you also get some nice tea bags with this one. I’d recommend this cute cat one from Luna Prints Studio too.
A blind date with a book
There are so many companies that do a variation on the blind date with a book concept but a great one I would recommend is The Mysterious Bookcase.
I had one of their Halloween surprise books, along with a chocolate bar, a tea bag, hot chocolate and a bookmark. The books also come in nicely wrapped paper.
They have the option to choose any genre you want, or have a “surprise me” option. They only pick books that have 3.5 stars or higher on Goodreads.
If you wish the get the Christmas blind date with a book then that can be found here.
Kindle accessories: stickers and charms
If you know a kindle lover, the chances are they love a good sticker to decorate their clear cases. SB Bookish Boutique has some great ones. They also sell cute charms that can be attached to the device.
Kindle accessories: pop socket
Sometimes kindle readers like to read lying down and there’s nothing worse than the device falling out of your hand and onto your face. So a pop socket is a perfect solution to this problem – allowing for extra grip. They can be really aesthetically pleasing too!
This one from Grassa Craft is very durable and comes with extra stickers if you need to change it at all. Both times I ordered from this shop, I also got a free gift of earrings!

Book sleeve
I know I said there’s nothing worse than a kindle falling on your face, but if there is something, it’s when a book gets destroyed in your bag. If the book lover in your life is anything like me, they may want to keep their book in pristine condition. A book sleeve is a great way to avoid any mishaps. This one by Tula Makes is handmade and great quality.
Magnetic bookmark
There are a lot of bookmark options available, from personalised name ones to fandom ones. Personally I love a magnetic bookmark. These ones are also shiny and pretty, perfect for the bookworm in your life.
Bookish print
If you know someone who loves a specific book then a great gift could be a print of a setting in that story. As an Emily Henry fan I loved this print of the bookshop in Book Lovers. You could even buy a nice frame to put it in too.
