Since we’re halfway through the year, I thought I would do this tag to share some of my opinions on the books I’ve read this year. I think the original tag was created by Ely on Booktube.
Best book you’ve read so far in 2025?
Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins is my favourite read of the year so far. It’s the one I still think about months after reading it and am still recommending it to everyone I know.
Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2025?
Bloodmarked by Tracy Deonn was a brilliant read. I love the fact the author has incorporated the Welsh language and history. It’s a fun fantasy read.
New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
Eliza Clark‘s She’s Always Hungry is a set of short stories that I am excited to pick up soon. I recently went to an author event with Eliza and Julia Armfield and bought this book. I believe there are horror and sci-fi themes throughout.
Most anticipated release for the second half of 2025
There are so many! I don’t think I can pick just one. Katabasis by R. F. Kuang is the first one to pop into my head. I love her writing. Also, I’m eagerly awaiting the release of We Love You, Bunny by Mona Awad. It’s a sequel to Bunny – one of the most fun and weird books I have read.
Biggest disappointment
Surprisingly it was Swept Away by Beth O’Leary. I’ve loved all of her books except this one. The setting and plot felt unrealistic and the ending was just a big no from me.
Biggest surprise
Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield is a brilliant horror novel focussing on Leah and Miri’s relationship after Leah is stranded under the sea for six months. The writing was incredible and the eerie atmosphere of what may have happened to Leah at the bottom of the ocean makes for a tense read.
New favourite author?
Definitely Julia Armfield. I’m excited to read more of her work.

Newest favourite character?
Joan Goodwin from Taylor Jenkins Reid’s latest book, Atmosphere. Her story is powerful, clever and inspirational.
Book that made you cry?
I still don’t cry while reading but ones that tugged at the heartstrings the most are Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins and Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
Book that made you happy?
After starting the ACOTAR series at the start of the year I’d probably say A Court of Mist and Fury as well as A Court of Wings and Ruins by Sarah J. Maas. I disliked the fourth instalment and I haven’t read the final book but those two were very enjoyable. I loved the characters and the world building.
Favourite book to movie adaption you’ve seen this year?
Definitely Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. Bridget is one of my all-time favourite characters and the films have always brought me great comfort and joy.
Favourite post you’ve written this year?
This year hasn’t been my most productive year for blogging but there are some I wrote at the start of the year that I spent a lot of time working on. The series I started – A Book Lover’s Guide – is one of my favourites to do so A Book Lover’s Guide to Cardiff is probably the one I’m most proud of.
Most beautiful book you bought this year?
The hardback edition of Rewitched by Lucy Jane Wood is stunning. I love the illustrations and the whimsical vibe.
What books do you really need to read by the end of the year?
I’d like to read The Will of the Many by James Islington. I’ve heard so many good things about this fantasy novel.
