A few of us missed out on taking part in the O.W.Ls (Ordinary Wizarding Level) readathon in April and decided to participate in July ready for the N.E.W.Ts (Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Test) this month (August).
This readathon was created by Book Roast over on Booktube. The whole point of the readathon is to read with others in the community and have fun.
To start, a career needed to be chosen (there are lots to choose from!) and then to participate I had to read a book that is linked to a specific prompt. Each prompt counts as an exam. For those who don’t know, the O.W.Ls are basically the examinations that the students take at Hogwarts, just like in the Harry Potter books.
My career choice: Hogwarts Professor
For this career I need seven O.W.Ls, one in a subject I wish to teach (Arithmancy), another in Defence Against the Dark Arts and five subjects of my choice.
Last month I chose and completed the following books:
Ancient Runes (Retelling) = A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer
Arithmancy (Work written by more than one author) – Burn for Burn by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian
Care of Magical Creatures (Land animal on the cover) – The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
Defence Against the Dark Arts (Reducto: title starts with an “R”) – Run by Kody Keplinger
Herbology (Plant on the cover) – Orange the complete collection volume 2 by Takano Ichigo
Muggle Studies (Contemporary) – Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney
Potions (Next ingredient: sequel) – Heartstopper volume 1 by Alice Oseman
I had a lot of fun doing this readathon and read a few books that I might not have had I not participated. I’m really excited to be taking part in the N.E.W.Ts readathon this month.
What other books did I read in July?
Belonging by Michelle Obama
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (reread)
What a Time To Be Alive by Chidera Eggerue

This sounds like fun, i’ve just taken part in The Reading Rush, really enjoyed it. Might check this out for next year.

I’m also doing the NEWTs readathon this month! I did OWLs back in April, choosing the Hogwarts Professor career too (but Divination as my teaching subject). Good luck and have fun!
