Mini wrap-up: April 2024

April ended up being one of my best reading months so far this year. My two favourite reads of the month were my auto-buy authors.

The Reappearance of Rachel Price by Holly Jackson was fantastic. I don’t think anyone does it quite like her. She somehow manages to write a gripping mystery that feels like it could be an actual true crime book. While this one didn’t keep me guessing as much as her first novel, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, I did love it just as much. I think the purpose of her fifth novel may be less about trying to know who committed the crime but trying to understand why someone would want to. It was utterly brilliant and I already want to reread it. I may have to wait until I reread her first series though as I want to read that before the TV series comes out.

Emily Henry has my heart too and it’s the complete opposite type of genre – although at times she still manages to tug at the heartstrings. Funny Story is her latest book and let me tell you, while there are funny, lighthearted moments, in true Emily Henry fashion, she will rip your heart out and give you a rather sad plot too. I think she’s a genius in what she does. The family dynamics and the world building of the towns she creates feel so realistic. They are definitely books I would like to revisit soon. Funny Story is one of her best work to date.

The books I read and my ratings:

Funny Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Reappearance of Rachel Price: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Assassin’s Blade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Housemaid: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Philosophy of Love: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Happily Never After: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sorry Not Sorry: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Due to the boycott, I won’t be sharing the other two books in this blog post. I may revisit them another time.
