Autumn reading update: October 2025

This month has been all about the thrillers and page-turners. I want to share what I’ve been reading and what I plan to read next.

Last read: Blood Like Magic by Liselle Sambury

This took me a bit of time to get into but once I was in the right frame of mind, I flew through it. It’s the perfect read for the autumnal months too. It follows Voya, a witch who has been called to take part in a trial in order to come into her magical powers. Unlike most callings, hers is more shocking as she’s asked to do something unspeakable. This is a fun read and I’m definitely going to pick up the sequel at some point.

Current read: The Examiner by Janice Hallett

Janice Hallett can be hit or miss for me but I wanted to read something that gave me the same feelings I had when I read The Appeal years ago. I love the multimedia format – it’s such a unique way to read a story and feels very immersive. This one follows a group of six art students and a possible murder. We see everything through the examiner’s eyes. It’s different from most fiction books because we don’t get any narration outside of emails, messages and course documents. I’m enjoying this one a lot so far.

Next read: Caller Unknown by Gillian McAllister

I got sent a copy of this book by the publisher and am very excited to read it as I’m a big fan of the author. This one follows a mother and daughter who take a trip together, but on the first morning, upon waking up, the mother discovers her daughter has been taken. This sounds like it’s going to be a riveting thriller and I think I’m going to love it.
